In modern Western Christendom large numbers of new believers are “growing up” in the faith without individual discipleship or mentoring from a family member, a close friend, or another mature Christ follower. As a result, those who are born again are left to struggle and survive on their own when it comes to their personal growth in Christ. They may attend churches, but in many situations these assemblies are a type of orphanage where believers find only emotional shelter and an occasional spiritual meal. Generations of believers have been adversely affected.
Thinking back on your own life, are you able to name the person who actually discipled you? Are you mentoring anyone in the faith? In our next offering we shall explore what a practical and effective discipleship model looks like.
