Sardis, the Walking Dead

Write this at once to the messenger of the assembly at Sardis.  These are the words of the One who is the exact essence and expression of God.  He convicts, teaches, and comforts the local assemblies of Asia and all around the world.  He is the Head of the churches.  He knows your works and your deeds with absolute clarity and accuracy.  He has no commendation for you.  You have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.  You are an assembly of living corpses.

Geographically, you are impregnable, but you are conquered over and over because you fail to keep watch.  This is true of your spiritual status as well.  Stay awake, watchful, and alert.  Strengthen and stabilize what you have before you lose it.  The works that you are doing do not originate with Christ so they cannot find completion in Him.

Your condition is desperate.  You must remember and rehearse what it was like to be receiving the truth of the Scriptures.  Remember what it was like to respond in obedience and the inner satisfaction that resulted.  Repent!  Do it now!  Change your mind, turn around, and come back to Christ.  But if you continue in your slumber, judgment will come upon you when you least expect it.

There are a few followers in Sardis who have not defiled themselves by wallowing in the muck of lies and loose living.  They shall walk with Christ in intimacy and dignity because they have proved their worth by obedience and worship.

Conquerors are arrayed in the white raiment of holiness and purity.  These are garments of celebration.  Those who overcome can be assured that they will never be blotted out of the Book of Life, the scroll of the saved ones.  Jesus will also acknowledge them to His Father and to the holy entourage of angels.

Are your ears awake to the wind words of the Spirit?  He speaks to all of the local assemblies.
