In the Volume of a Book: Conclusion?

This series of posts, “In the Volume of a Book,” has been based on Psalm 40:7-8 and the prophetic fulfillment in Christ stated in Hebrews 10:7. There’s no way to bring the study of or about the Scriptures to any satisfactory conclusion. Perhaps we should consider this last post a commencement or a catapult forward.

When we open the Bible, we are in God’s world, and it is important to remember that much of it – or even most of it – will initially be unfamiliar to us. For us, it stretches from creation to salvation, but God inhabits the eternal on each side of these miracles. In Scripture we are pulled into participation with God on His terms. We must assimilate it into the fiber of our lives – into every part of our being. We are to go beyond the study; we are to come to the table as the prophets of old: Jeremiah (Jer.15:16), Ezekiel (Ezek.2:8-3:3), and John (Rev.10:9-10), and we are to “eat this book.”

We close this series with a summary of Scripture passages that will be an encouragement to you as you consider the wonder of the Word of God.

The entirety of Scriptures have been revealed by God, not discovered by humans. It is imperative that we both respect how we have received them and respond in obedience to what they say. They will remain forever, and they will accomplish God’s intended purposes.

The written Word, which God honors as much as His name, finds its completion in the living Word, Jesus Christ.

We are to meditate on the Word; we are to search it and examine it eagerly. Knowing the Scriptures will acclimate us to the power of God. The Word is more than our necessary food, a desired treasure, and an indispensable weapon used to encounter the powers of darkness around us.

By the Word, we will overcome. Let us beware of adding to it or taking away from it.
