Approach these next several posts from wherever you are in your relationship with Scripture. My intent is for you to digest these conversations as a journey, an adventure, a pilgrimage – as we explore, examine, and engage in what is the indisputable mystery of the Bible, God’s Word. No one can credibly deny that it is more widely read while also being more unique than any other form of literature on the planet.
Let’s ease forward into this mission by first making a few simple, yet profound historical statements about the Bible. Be warned; it’s compelling right from the start.
The Bible was written over a span of 1600 years.
Wait a minute! How is that possible?! How could it maintain continuity? Why don’t we hear people ask this question? GET IN!
It was composed across three continents: Africa, Asia, and Europe… by over 40 authors.
Yet, with all these wild facts, it exists as one coherent sacred document; which, by the way no one has been able to successfully destroy. BUCKLE UP!
In its original format, parts were written in three different languages: Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic.
HOLD ON!
Even to the critical examiner, it is quite obvious that there is a progressive unity and purpose to this book. That purpose is the exaltation of its overarching author and the engagement of human writers to bring us a message of rescue and hope. That message is delivered through the Bible, the written Word, and through the “God-Man,” the living Word… to be discussed later.
Things for you to consider or discuss…
What is it about the Bible that makes it so indestructible?
If the Bible is for us, shouldn’t its message have the ability to transcend time and cultures?
What did the organic process between God and man look like during the formation of the Bible?
Oh, there’s more… get in, buckle up, hold on!
